Aims of the project: Thermal spray is a technology producing novel materials which significantly increase the resistance of substrates against the surrounding environment. Water stabilized plasma torch (WSP R 160) operating at IPP Prague represents a world unique system where the resulting microstructure and coating's properties can be varied in a wide interval by variation of the processing parameters. The goal of the project is a comparison of the microstructure and of selected properties, especially abrasion resistance, prepared by WSPR and by other progressive technologies used in Skoda Research, Ltd. (HVOF, arc spraying). Results of this work will be focused on prolongation of the lifetime of certain mechanical parts while using economically advantageous materials. Involvement of Skoda Research, Ltd. ensures smooth transfer of research results into real life.

Progress/Results: Thermal spray coatings with high wear resistance were prepared by plasma spraying with WSP plasma gun as well as by HVOF technique. As materials WC-Co and also Cr3C2-NiCr as well as other cermet and ceramic materials were sprayed.
