Aims of the project: The reactions of organic compounds induced by discharge plasma directly in liquids were generally not much investigated in pure organic liquid state but rather more commonly in aqueous mixtures in the case when organic compounds were present in water as a pollutant or as a radical quencher. The objective of this project is to advance fundamental understanding of chemical processes initiated by electrical discharge plasma in organic liquids. The research will focus on characterization of plasmachemical reactions initiated in selected liquid hydrocarbons with emphasis on the potential of using liquid-phase plasma reactions for the chemical synthesis of specific organic compounds. The project seeks, through varying pulsed discharge plasma parameters and reactor operating conditions, to define key processes and mechanisms participating in plasma assisted chemical reactions in organic solutions.
