Aims of the project: The aim of the proposed project is to develop fundamental understanding of the hydrodynamic phenomena connected with electrical discharges in liquids and to study their acoustical characteristics. The basic task of the project is to investigate a qualitative picture of transformation of the electrical energy to the mechanical one. Theoretical models of a discharge as a hydrodynamic phenomenon will be examined and the results of these calculations will be compared with experimental data. Further on, an experimental study of the focused shock wave generation will be performed. A detailed comparison of three shock wave generators with different electrode configurations will be done. It is supposed that based on this comparison the shock wave generator with the best efficiency will be determined and its parameters will be optimized. A new experimental setup will be used for the determination of the most important parameter for practical applications – the efficiency of transformation of the electrical energy to the mechanical one. These results enable us to determine the optimal parameters for generation of focused shock waves.
