Aims of the project: The proposal is focused on studies of radiation processes linked to Runaway Electrons (RE) in tokamaks. Control and mitigation of the RE is essential for the operational reliability of the fusion reactor ITER while interlink between modelling results and tokamak experimental data is far from satisfactory. On one side, plasma theory and computer models need to become more specific, on the other side the tokamak facilities lack RE-relevant diagnostics. The proposed project would contribute to improved understanding of processes linked to RE radiation via theory, modelling and diagnostic development in a wide range of radiation energies, from ECE to hard X-rays. Among others, local interaction of the RE with well-defined fast moving or fixed target is proposed. The project will make use of RE experimental campaigns on tokamaks COMPASS and GOLEM as well as a detector laboratory, and support participation in development of sophisticated codes including LUKE and SYRUP with a direct link to the experiment.
